2013-2014 MBES Yearbooks on sale!

Attention all Bobcats!

Margaret Brent Yearbooks are now on sale online.  Don’t’ miss out on your book of memories!  You may purchase the yearbook online by going to www.schoolannual.com and then clicking on the link on the upper right corner “Buy My Yearbook.”  Select “Margaret Brent Elementary School” and follow the directions for purchases.  Online ordering will end on May 31st.  The cost is $13.00 per yearbook until April 18th.  After April 18th, the price will be $15.00.

2014 SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES

During the summer of 2014, Stafford County Public Schools will offer academic classes for new and repeat credit, and driver’s education (both classroom and Behind the Wheel).  Information about the SOL remediation/test review for students, who pass a class but fail the SOL test, as well as the Jump Start program, are also included.  Please use the links below for additional program information.

PRE-REGISTRATION:  April 28 through June 9 in the high school or middle school counseling centers.  The only exception is registration for Behind the Wheel.  Please see Behind the Wheel Summer Program flyer for the three specific dates (May 5, May 21 and June 18) and sites for registration of this particular summer program.
 
OPEN REGISTRATION:  Tuesday, June 18, 8:00 am – 11:00 am at Colonial Forge High School.


STAFFORDíS FOUNDERS DAY FEATURES PARADE, HISTORY SQUARE AND FINE ARTS FESTIVAL

Flame Thrower, Marching Bands and Mayor of Stafford, England Join Celebration

Stafford, VA – Thousands of people are expected to converge in “downtown” Stafford to honor the County’s 350th anniversary during its first ever Founders Day event on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. Presented by the Free Lance-Star Companies and organized by the North Stafford Rotary Club and the County’s 350th Anniversary Blue Ribbon Committee, the two day celebration will start on Saturday at Stafford Hospital with a hometown parade and finish at Brooke Point High School with a special History Square and the Stafford Schools Fine Arts Festival. The parade will take place on Saturday, but History Square and the Fine Arts Festival will run both Saturday and Sunday.

The parade will be divided into different eras representing Stafford’s beginnings, the American Revolution, Civil War, World War I and World War II, and modern times and the future. Special guests will include the Mayor of the Borough of Stafford, England, Angela M. Loughran, who will be visiting Stafford with a group of visitors from her community in honor of Stafford’s 350th anniversary.

The schedule for Saturday, May 3, follows:

• 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Parade (starts at Stafford Hospital and ends at Brooke Point High School). Highlights include:

Stafford County Head Start/Virginia Preschool Initiative Program is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015

Stafford County Head Start/Virginia Preschool Initiative Program is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year.  Head Start is a free, full-day preschool program, which offers children an exciting curriculum, a stimulating learning environment and an excellent teaching staff.  Transportation, meals and supplies are provided.  This program is open to children who are 3 or 4 years of age by September 30, 2014, live in Stafford County, and meet the federal income-eligibility guidelines.  Enrollment is available to children regardless of race, sex, creed, national origin, or handicapping condition.  The Head Start program encourages the active recruitment of children with special needs.  If you or someone you know would like to know more about Head Start, please call (540) 368-2559 for more information.
Stafford County School Board Approves Inclement Weather Make-up Plan

The School Board at its meeting on March 11, 2014, approved the following plan to make-up days missed due to inclement weather.

No early release for elementary on April 18, May 23, June 11, and June 12
Early release for middle and high schools on exam days, June 11, June 12, and June 13.
 Full day of instruction for all grades on April 18 and May 23.
Attend on make-up day April 4
Early Release for all grades on June 13, 2014, last day of school.
